MISSION STATEMENT

This web site is devoted to preserving and heralding the tremendous accomplishments of shipbuilders on the American and Canadian west coasts c.1859-1920.

An unexpected discovery of 1,500 glass plate negative photographs in 2003, revealed for the first time the tremendous extent to which America and Canada’s last frontier shipyards went to, to build the finest wooden ships of sail ever built, anywhere!

If one follows the axiom that the ‘last built of a thing, is generally the best built of a thing’, then just possibly the finest wooden tall ships ever built were built on the west coast of North America, and most would call San Francisco their home port.

Please look over our web site and links and let us know what you think.

If you or your family have additional west coast tall ship history and/or vintage photographs to share with the world, please contact us at the email address below.

Thank you for your support, Steve Priske - Historian ~ Shipwright.
